TRANSPORT
Inside the perimeter of Cusco, the tourist can choose public transportation like buses and minibuses which have a determined itinerary and whose rate is quite inexpensive.
Meanwhile, as far as the taxi is concerned, the fares are negociated before the departure, as these taxis have no meter.
If you are going to Machu Picchu, you should take a direct train to the city of Aguas Calientes, then from there, take a bus that goes up to the Machu Picchu. The distance between the city of Cusco and the train station of Puente Ruinas in Aguas Calientes is 112 kilometers.
The train is leaving from the Poroy-Cusco station which is 25 minutes from the city of Cusco. There are daily departures and three train services:
If you buy your tickets from a travel agency, they will usually pick you up from your hotel to take you to the station. Then, when you come back from your trip, they will take you back to your accomodation. Your travel agent will give you all the tickets you need for your trip at Machu Picchu.
Continuing, we will descend through the villages of Cachimayo, Izcuchaca then through the Pampa de Anta an extensive cattle area. We will pass through a narrow gorge and then slide into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to the station of Pachar. We will cross the Urubamba river to get on it´s right bank to reach the station of Ollantaytambo and then go to Puente Ruinas, our final destination.
